Mocktail Hour - Little Miss Scarlett

Writer's picture: JulietJuliet

A by-product of sheer exhaustion, early bedtimes, and recent travel in Muslim countries is a newfound love of all things mocktail. What could be better? They’re fancy, tasty, don’t leave you feeling like you need a midday nap, and….if you like, can have alcohol added!

Every night on vacation we’d sit in the overwater bar and watch the sunset - as well as a myriad of would-be influencers posing in weird positions with crazy camera accessories to get their perfect sunset shot. While we watched this show, we’d sip on amazing drinks (I reacquainted myself with my favorite summer drink - the Pimm’s Cup) and nibble on tapas (more on that coming up).

We befriended a bartender who gave us the recipe for this mocktail, then “made” us try it with all manner of alcohols to decide which fit best. It is Christmas in a cup - refreshing but spicy. Enough blabbering…I give you the Little Miss Scarlett!

Ingredients: (per drink)

5oz cranberry juice

3oz cinnamon simple syrup

1 ½ oz lime juice

Pear slices (thin)

Cinnamon Simple Syrup:

1 c. sugar

1 c. water

2 tsp ground cinnamon

Dash vanilla extract

First, make your simple syrup. This will make enough for many mocktails. Put water and sugar in a small saucepan and simmer on medium/low until the sugar dissolves fully. Then add cinnamon and whisk vigorously to incorporate. Take off the heat and add a dash of vanilla. You can strain if you want, but that will reduce the punch of the cinnamon.

In a cocktail (mocktail?) shaker, combine the drink ingredients with ice. Shake, shake, shake - then pour into the vessel of your choice. We keep forgetting the pear, but you are supposed to muddle a little in the shaker then garnish with super thin slices.

Alcohol combinations: My favorite is silver tequila, my husband’s is gin. Play with it and see what you like, or leave it non-alcoholic - there’s no way to lose!
